David Broome – 1937 to 2015

David Broome 1937 to 2015We regret to report that David passed away on the night of 20th/21st February after a brief period of serious illness.

David was Association member 633 dating from 1988 and had for many years been a stalwart of the Surrey Area Group and a regular assisting with the Association sales and publicity stand at shows such as Expo Narrow Gala, Amberley Gala, Narrow Gauge South-West, and not forgetting the Burton AGM. He served on the Association committee from 2002 to 2006

David’s modelling was meticulous in its execution and finishing. He developed the technique of Gnomy-bashing well beyond anybody else, the fundamental nature of his Gnomy bashes and other bashed/freelanced models being that they were all completely practical and credible, qualities not always apparent in models of that ilk. This was most recently recognised in the award of a Nosbert at Burton in 2014 as runner up to the David Lloyd trophy for a freelance diesel railcar.

David was a gentleman who was respected by his colleagues and who was always ready to share his knowledge. We will also remember the annual pilgrimages to Steyning for a garden tour.

The funeral was held on 2nd March with members of the Surrey Area Group and the Association Chairman in attendance. We send our condolences and good wishes to his wife, Lynne, and the family.
